Raw Incense & Smudging
This is the oldest form of incense - loose herbs, roots, barks and resin, thrown into fire for both their aroma, and the dance they would create with the flames and smoke. The dance and scent formed a direct line of communication to the gods, where prayers could then be answered, wishes asked for, and magick practised. Tribal elders and monks with herbal knowledge would also burn the appropriate plants for healing, their medicinal properties carried on the smoke. Although we can still throw the below mixes into the fire, today we tend to use charcoal discs, to make them last longer, and to really enjoy the divine aromas they produce.
Kia Ora's raw (or loose) incense is crafted by hand, by Dianna, using astronomical and societal influences and energies. Her mixes are unique, each ingredient specifically chosen for their metaphysical qualities, out of over a hundred that she has in her magickal apothecary. They include gums and resins (some of them rare), roots, herbs, flowers, essential oils, absolutes, and the vibrational energies of crystals, and/or flowers, and/or the environment and the planets. Once you've burned raw, resin-based incense, nothing else will compare! Our incense can be burnt on a charcoal disc (sold below), like in the photo on the right. Alternatively, we've included another nifty little way to burn raw incense below.
Another way to burn raw incense - no charcoal disc needed: use an oil burner with aluminium foil lining the bowl. Double the height of the tealight, or use a candle twice the height of a tealight so the flame is nearer the bowl, light the candle, wait 1 minute, then start adding your raw incense and watch it bubble away without burning or smoking the place out. The scent is divine this way.
*Never leave burning candles or incense unattended and exercise common sense if following the above guidelines.
You'll find a decent selection of resins, roots and herbs below. These can be burnt singly, or mixed together, or used in spell pouches or medicine bags. Everything sold below is for external use only - do not ingest.
